    Alabama Board of Nursing ransomware attack may have exposed nurses' SSNs and medical information

    Alabama's nursing licensing agency was hit by ransomware, malicious software that locks up computer systems, starting around September 1, 2026, and its online services went down for weeks. The Board confirms some data was copied out and says personal details of nurses, applicants and members of the public, possibly including Social Security numbers and medical information, may have been exposed. License renewals are now back online in a new system.
